Levoit Core 300 True HEPA Air Purifier
The most-reviewed air purifier on Amazon, and one of the few sub-$100 units that independent test labs actually rate well rather than just tolerate. Here's what its numbers really mean, including where Levoit's marketing figures and independently measured results don't quite match.

Real specs
Baseline numbers below come from Levoit's own published spec sheet and Amazon listing. Where independent lab testing (HouseFresh) measured something different under real-world conditions, we've noted both.
CADR
Levoit's own headline figure: 141 CFM (~240 m³/h). Its Amazon listing separately breaks this out as 140 CFM (smoke) / 141 CFM (dust) / 145 CFM (pollen). Independent lab testing (HouseFresh) measured 126 CFM (smoke) / 134 CFM (dust) / 154 CFM (pollen) — broadly in the same range, with smoke performance somewhat lower than Levoit's own number.
Room coverage
Levoit's own recommended room size, at a standard 4.8 air changes per hour, is 219 sq. ft. Levoit's marketing also advertises "1,095 sq. ft." — that's a separate, less-standard metric (a single, partial air pass rather than 4.8 full changes/hour) and isn't a fair comparison to the 219 sq. ft figure. For a bedroom or home-office use case, plan around 219 sq. ft., not 1,095.
Noise
Levoit advertises "24dB quiet operation," which independent testing indicates is a best-case (lowest fan speed / sleep mode) figure. HouseFresh's measured noise levels across all three fan speeds were 38.9dB (low) to 50.2dB (max), measured 3 feet away — noticeably louder than the headline number at any speed above the lowest.
Power draw
Levoit's own listing states a 45W motor. HouseFresh's measured actual power draw was lower in practice: 19.7W (low speed) to 35.5W (max speed), with ~0.1W in standby.
Filter
3-stage filtration: fine pre-filter, activated carbon layer (odor/VOC), and a true HEPA filter rated to capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, per Levoit. Replacement filters run about $30 and Levoit recommends replacing every 6 months.

What it's actually good for
A bedroom or home-office-sized room (realistically up to roughly 200–250 sq. ft.) where you want continuous, quiet-at-low-speed HEPA filtration without spending $200+. It's a legitimate true-HEPA unit, not a HEPA-type or "HEPA-style" filter with a lower actual capture rate, and the 3-stage design does handle odor (via the carbon layer) in addition to particulates. Auto mode and a display-off sleep setting make it reasonable to leave running overnight in a bedroom, provided you keep it on a low fan speed.
Things to know before buying
It is not a whole-home or large-open-plan solution — treat the 219 sq. ft. figure, not the 1,095 sq. ft. marketing number, as the realistic room-size limit. At higher fan speeds it's noticeably louder than the "24dB" headline figure suggests, so if hitting max speed regularly (e.g., during wildfire smoke or heavy allergy season) is part of your plan, expect audible fan noise, not silence. Replacement filters are an ongoing cost (~$30 roughly every 6 months) that's worth factoring into the real cost of ownership beyond the sticker price. Levoit also sells a "Core 300-P" variant with a screen/smart controls at a different price point — make sure you're buying the model you intend to.
